Evolution of Abstract Line Drawing

This illustrates the way in which I often compose a painting through preliminary drawings. studying the line movement first then the balance of light and dark and finally what and where the color is to go. In the case of this triptych of the same image what is indicated in yellow would be actually done in gold leaf, as I would use an egg tempera technique, translated into acrylics and on a gessoed panel, rather than canvas.
