The
original image was worked up from a small pencil drawing
done on
site. I also had slides that I had taken to add more details
and
color possibilities. I had thought about using somewhat ghostly
images of the four winds from Hiawatha's poem, such as Mujekeewis,
the
north west wind but decided it was too hokey.
The
canvas is quite large and adapted to several light sources,
such
as the sky and the campfire. After looking at it for
a few months in
my studio, I decided to edit it by removing some of the
central trees
to allow a better view of Mt Moosalamu, above Lake Dunmore,
in
Salisbury, Vermont. The site is, of course, Camp Keewaydin,
at the north end of the lake.
With the revision, the viewer is able to get a grander
view of the
setting. It is now owned by Hans M. Carlson, PhD.
